  Solomon vs. Lord=Great Escapism Reading!
   By Paul Levine

Many people know author Paul Levine from his Jake Lassiter series of crime novels. Levine, however, now has a new series of detective novels called, Solomon vs. Lord. The first novel in this series has been likened to Carl Hiaasen and Dave Barry mysteries, because of its South Florida setting and quick-paced humor.

The story follows unscrupulous lawyer, Steve Solomon, (who is known for inventing his own laws), and new Yale law school graduate, Victoria Lord, who likes to stick with the real laws (and her color-coded note cards). Solomon and Lord meet as opposing counsel in an endangered species case. In a hilarious scene within the first few pages they are both held in contempt of court and thrown in jail. In such close quarters, Solomon decides that he has to find a way to make her his law partner. As they bicker their way into a strange romantic friendship, Victoria needs to decide whether or not to marry her rich fiancée. A series of strange characters make up the rest of the novel, including Solomon's autistic savant nephew, Bobby. A case involving a sexy former figure skater, charged with killing her wealthy husband, brings Solomon, Lord, and Bobby together on a wild-goose chase.

This book contains some graphic language and may not appeal to everyone, but those wanting a good mystery and romance will not be disappointed. This is truly one of the best books I've read all year!

Happy summer reading!
